Donburi

It was a night to meet up with friends we haven't seen in a while.  It took forever to decide on which new place to try in the York Region because theres always so many new places that pop open, and then close unexpectedly and then re-open with another new restaurant.  The choice for the night was Donburi.  Another comfort food type restaurant since donburi is usually some sort of protein over rice.

Donburi offers several different types of donburi, and has some udon offerings too if you aren't feeling for much rice.  They also have several appetizers on the menu too.  In the end we ordered, the ikayaki, and chicken karaage to share.  Individually we ordered the chicken katsu don, unagi don, grilled chicken don, pork katsu udon and the beef short rib don.  Please excuse the blurry pictures.  I was in a rush to take pictures because everyone was hungry and wanted to dig into dinner.

All of the dishes were done pretty well, considering I actually didn't have much of high expectations when I walked in and noticed all the servers were Mandarin speaking.  But I guess it can't be that hard to screw up meat over steamed rice.  For the price that you pay, the quantity of food you get is pretty good.  I probably ate half my chicken katsu (shared the rest with others), and ate 1/3 of the rice and was full.

I just noticed the hours of operation for Donburi.  They close super late!  Great for late night dinners.
