Lion City Restaurant

Lion City has been around forever.  All my coworkers that live in Mississauga has said that this restaurant has been around for as long as they remember.  Must be good if it has lasted that long right?  My coworkers and I have been meaning to check it out for the longest time.  When we did make a plan to go try it, I got super sick.  And knowing that its Singaporean, Malaysian type food, it would be spicy, probably would irritate me more than help, so we had to postpone it till much later.  Full disclaimer, I haven't had much in terms of Malaysian or Singaporean food, so I can't comment as to what I tried is authentic or not.  My review is based on if it agreed with my tastebuds and if I liked it or not.

We ordered 3 dishes for the 4 of us.  The only dish that I really remember is the laksa lemak.  The other dishes, I think was either a Thai style fried rice noodle or pad thai, and a chicken and vegetable stir fry.  The laksa lemak, the broth was delicious, albeit VERY spicy.  My coworkers who could eat spice couldn't handle it.  I was barely able to, so I ended up eating most of it just because I didn't want  to waste it.  The noodles I thought was different than the laksas I've had before, it was like a very thick vermicelli.  The laksas that I've had before is usually a thick yellow round noodle mixed with vermicelli.  I was told by other friends, that is  not authentic, and it should be just the thick round vermicelli.  I just wished that the broth wasn't so spicy, you couldn't taste anything in the broth aside from the spice!  What a waste.  I have to say, there was a steady stream of people coming in for lunch, and each table, there was at least 1 order of the laksa lemak.  So I assume it must be good, just not for my tastebuds.

The fried noodle was just ok.  Spicy and well, but not as spicy as the laksa.  But nothing to write home about.  My biggest issue with this dish was how piecey the noodles were.  It was almost as if we got served all the end bits in the bag.  Would have been easier to eat the noodles with a spoon.

The chicken with veggie stir fry was quite boring.  I told my coworker thats probably because we ordered the most "White"/"Western" dish not the menu.
